Regarding the lack of technical talksPosted: July 16, 2012
Some of you have mentioned to me that you wish that the meetings would have more technical content. If you’re one of those people, I definitely agree with you, but this is where we need your help. The fact is I haven’t had too many people volunteer to give the technical talks. Here are some things that I’d love to see someone talk about:
- The page object pattern
- How to test non-web front ends (e.g. Windows desktop apps, Silverlight)
- Pick your favorite tool (Selenium, Watir, factory_girl, etc.) and show how you use it and how it helps you
You don’t have to be an expert to present something. You don’t even have to be using it at your day job. Just show us what you’re learning and we’ll learn from you. I’ve learned a lot from many people throughout my career, and many of them weren’t the so-called “thought leaders” or experienced speakers. So if that little voice in your head is telling you that no one cares about what you’re doing, the little voice is lying to you! If you don’t think you have enough content to fill 40 minutes, let me know and maybe we can have a month with two 20 minute talks. I’m really open to anything, this group is for us, by us, so we can what we want with it.
